My Dad’s Dream – Chris Petkau

My dad, Bert Petkau, taught me a lot of things growing up. He taught me how to ride a bike, how to swing a hammer, and tried to teach me the guitar which to this day I wish I had stuck with. But one thing he taught me whether it was on purpose or not was to dream. I remember having many conversations with him about the church, music, art and God discussing song ideas, movie ideas and new and creative ways to show people who God was. He felt like God wanted to do something big in the Christian Music Industry but couldn’t quite put his finger on what it exactly was and so Dream City was born. Dream City is based on the Hebrews 11 scripture.

By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a foreignland, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise; for he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God. Hebrews 11:8-10

Since he started his journey a lot of the vision has come into focus. My dad believed music, art and media could be used to unite the church, reach the lost, and glorify Jesus Christ. Those three I remember were his biggest priorities. Talking with him if we weren’t talking about one of those topics then what the heck were we talking about and I fully agreed. Bert Petkau passed away of colon and liver cancer in November of 2014 with his dream feeling more real than the day it was conceived in his heart. He passed away still believing, like Abraham, that although he had not seen the fulfillment of his promise it would surely come to pass. I, Chris Petkau, my wife Sarah, his wife and my mother Teresa Petkau, and many others are dedicated to continuing on the dream of my father and believe, like he believed this is bigger than one man or one ministry.

Thanks for checking out my dad’s music and believing in Dream City with us.

Lights & Oceans

Song of Songs 8:13 says. “You, who dwell in the gardens, with friends in attendance, “Let me hear your voice”

It is my desire that we would take what is resonating within us and release it upon the earth. Lights and Oceans is just a small part of a big vision that is stirring. I pray that this vision would be released in our hearts, in this city, and on the earth.
